The regulation of E-Scooters has been brought to the attention of the city’s transportation committee.

Saskatoon Business owner, Ben Quattrini, is asking the city to create a framework for an e-scooter pilot project.
He would like to bring almost 400 E-scooters to the city but they aren’t currently allowed on roads or sidewalks.
Quattrini says E-scooter operations currently exist in cities across Canada including Kelowna, Calgary and Edmonton.
Quattrini suggests the city would need to ask the province for exemptions to allow the scooters on roadways of 50 kilometres per hour or less.

Derek Kowalski from the city socillistor’s office believes it may be more complicated than that, and says there would need to be amendments to the Traffic Bylawa and Parks use bylaw. He explains there is framework in the changes that were made for power assisted bicycles.

The transportation committee made a motion to city administration to develop a report of the viability of e-scooters in Saskatoon.
