It was a day full of fun along the Meewasin Trail Saturday, although unfortunately the Meewasin Valley Authority was unable to break the world record for the longest chalk mural.
Amy Wall from the MVA says the world record is 5.7 kilometres long and on Saturday the approximately 3,000 people who came to draw only made it somewhere between 3 and 4 kilometres down the trail.
Wall says they had the right amount of people and the right amount of space, it just happened that people were having so much fun drawing, that they weren’t able to get as far as they thought they would.
The 3,000 people is 1,500 more than originally expected. Wall says they had 1,500 people sign-up online beforehand and the other 1,500 just showed up throughout the day.
Wall adds they may make another attempt to break the record next year. According to Guinness World Records, the longest chalk mural record belongs to Greeley, Colorado.
