We broke cold weather records Sunday in Saskatchewan, six of them actually, but despite how nasty if feels with the wind this morning, it has not been cold enough for Environment Canada to issue a list of new record breaking cold temperatures.
The Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for all of Saskatchewan and Alberta as well as most of Manitoba. The bitterly cold air will remain over the Prairies for much of the next week. An arctic ridge of high pressure has allowed for a very cold air mass to settle over the prairies. You can expect winds of 10 to 20 km/h and extreme wind chill values between -40 and -50 are expected.
A caller to the CJWW newsroom left a message around 3 a.m. on Tuesday saying it was zero visibility on Highway 16 east and he had to turn back at Elstow. Many highways in Saskatchewan are reporting drifting snow as well as reduced visibility. You can check the Highway Hotline by clicking the NEWS tab at the top of this page.
