Saskatchewan was the only province in Canada to record an increase in exports in 2020. The Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership says the total value of our exports reached $30.4 billion. That was a 2.5 per cent increase from the previous year. STEP says the growth was due to substantial volumes of agricultural commodities. Agri-food exports reached $17 billion, growing 31.4 per cent from 2019.

Preliminary data shows exports to the United States fell by about 18 per cent, due mainly to the price of oil, but maintained their position as the number one market for Saskatchewan products. Exports to China rose 33 per cent. Japan, India and Brazil rounded out the top five international market destinations.

Exports of oil dropped about 32 per cent and potash by nearly eight per cent.
