Work is set to begin in a couple of weeks that will see a few more parking spaces and a drop-off zone at the parking lot area between the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site, the Prairie Lily and Nutrien Wonderhub.
The Meewasin Valley Authority says in a news release that the first phase of the Kinsmen Riverfront Enhancements comes from their capital budget plus support from the City of Saskatoon and the Trans Canada Trail.
The two existing parking lots which have trees dividing them will be combined into one lot.
Meewasin has salvaged about a hundred plants and two smaller trees will be relocated.
The harvested wood will be salvaged for other projects.
Once the replanting is done Meewasin says there will be more vegetation than there is now.
The next phases include enhancements to the trail through the site, an upgraded riverfront stair and ramp connection down to the Prairie Lily dock, and enhancements to the lower trail from the dock heading north, although these are all contingent on funding so there are no timelines.
