Legislation passed by the provincial government in the last session prohibiting Saskatchewan municipalities from making a ban on handguns means federal gun legislation introduced this week by the Trudeau Liberals won’t mean a lot here.
During the province’s COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, Premier Scott Moe says there is no need to make any response to what the federal government has done because the laws in our province are interpreted by the chief firearms officer.
Newly tabled federal gun legislation would allow municipalities to ban handguns through bylaws restricting their possession, storage and transportation. Moe says the broader concern he has was a lack of consultation. (CKRM)
