The Saskatoon Police Service has created a role they hope will provide leadership in equity, diversity and inclusion.
At this week’s Board of Police Commissioners meeting the role of a Director of equity, diversity and inclusion was discussed as part of the 2020 Business Plan to improve the relationship between the Saskatoon Police and the community. Engagement with the Indigenous community was one of the priorities.
Noted in a report to the Police Commissioners was the lack of a person at the executive level to oversee the process. This person would lead the newly re-branded Equity and Cultural Engagement Unit.
The report states that the position would be similar to a position that is currently active in the Ottawa Police Service.
Although the plan didn’t show when the position might be filled it did include details on how funds could be re-allocated internally.
