Saskatoon’s Gordie Howe Sports Complex finally got its long-awaited shot of funding from the Federal and Provincial governments as the complex nears completion.
The Feds announced that $8.3 million is ear-marked for the expanded complex out of a total of 39 million dollars worth of infrastructure monies given to 12 projects throughout Saskatchewan while Premier Scott Moe was on hand to dole out $6.9 million to the Gordie Howe Sports Complex.
“We are dangerously close (to reaching the financial goal),” explained Friends of the Bowl Campaign Chair Greg Yuel. “We are on the one yard-line, ready to jump it across the (goal) line. This is fantastic, I couldn’t be happier.”
The expanded Gordie Howe Sports Complex will house a new multi-sport complex and outdoor artificial turf field, an outdoor baseball training and practice complex, nordic ski trails, as well as a new ticket booth facility and bleachers. That is in addition to the refurbished Saskatoon Minor Football Field along with the softball and baseball diamonds, a new track and field facility that doubles as the Clarence Downey speed-skating oval in the winter.
Full completion of the project is expected to be the fall of 2021.
