Finance Critic Trent Wotherspoon doesn’t believe having the budget released on April 6th is appropriate, because it’s also the third anniversary of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash where sixteen people were killed and thirteen were injured.
Premier Scott Moe says he asked Finance Minister Donna Harpauer back in 2018 if they should postpone introducing the budget which was scheduled four days after the crash, but she said no.
Harpauer is also the MLA for Humboldt-Wakaw and Moe says he knows for certain when she delivers the budget on the 6th, she will also be honouring the victims, the families and all those who were impacted.
Harpauer will have her hockey sticks outside her door and they will also be outside the Legislative Assembly.
After the crash, around the world, people began posting pictures of hockey sticks outside their doors in tribute.
The official opposition has also questions the shorter session, which will be eight four-day weeks instead of ten.
