A simple storytelling exercise to share a few laughs and learn a little about theatre has had more impact than one of the organizers expected.
Library Services for Saskatchewan Aboriginal Peoples commissioned playwright Curtis Peeteetuce to do a video series to celebrate Indigenous storytelling and his idea was to feature three grandmothers, or Kohkoms in Cree, learning about acting and telling their stories.
Donna Lerat, Gloria Myo and Donna Merasty read scenes from plays, played games and shared in deep discussions about their own lives, with the videos available on YouTube.
The project will wrap with a party over Zoom to mark the end of Saskatchewan Aboriginal Storytelling Month on Sunday at 1, where the kohkoms will do a reading from the plays they have been working on.
