Saskatoon residents will be able to have their say when it comes to residential street speed limits, with a new online survey.
A speed limit review goes online Tuesday looking for feedback that will focus on the possibility of reducing speed limits in residential areas from 50 km/h to either 40 or 30 km/h. It will also look at possible changes for school, playground and senior zones
Director of Transportation, Jay Magus say the feedback they receive will be brought to committee and council and will be used as a consideration for further recommendations. While the timeline isn’t set in stone, this could lead to further reports, and the speed limit changes could be implemented next year.
Magus says the survey will include clear, unbiased questions. It will share facts regarding positive impacts that reduced speeds have in collisions, and information of what reduced speeds will do to travel time in neigbourhoods. He gave an example of Lakeview, and how it would take 31 additional seconds to drive from Wakaw Place, north to Kingsmere Boulevard and then north to Taylor Street, if the speed limit was dropped from 50 to 40 km/h.
The survey will last for 2 months and can be viewed here.
