The W-H-L is still clean of positive COVID-19 tests as their return to play continues.
The fourth week of tests by the league on players, coaches and support staff saw 602 tests administered with no positive results. The league has had a total of 1,099 tests administered with no positive results since February 12th. That includes 428 tests in total administered to the seven East Division teams in the “Dubble” in Regina. That means all members of the teams had two negative tests, meaning they were allowed to gather together and begin practicing Friday.
The Saskatoon Blades practiced late Friday afternoon at the Brandt Centre for the first time in almost a full year. There are 26 players…three goaltenders, nine defencemen and 14 forwards. The Bridge City Bunch announced that 2003-born centre Jayden Wiens (pictured) has opted out of playing in the 24-game “Dubble.” The franchise says they fully support the Carrot River product’s decision and look forward to discussing his future before the fall. The Blue and Gold play their first game a week from Saturday against Swift Current.
