There will be more than 50 million dollars in joint funding, federal and provincial, to build two new recreational facilities in Saskatchewan.
The announcement was made Friday.
In Prince Albert, , home of the Western Hockey League Champions this year, a new recreation centre will be built to replace two ageing facilities in P.A. The new centre is expected to provide residents with access to a new aquatic centre, two hockey rinks with seating capacity for 800 spectators in each arena, dressing rooms, storage, concessions, washrooms and a foyer.
In Southend, which is 220 kilometres northeast of La Ronge, the funding will allow for the construction of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Community Ice Rink that allows for winter ice sports and in summer a multi purpose space for cultural and recreational activities.
Ottawa is supplying 28.5 million dollars while the Saskatchewan government will invest more than 21.4 million dollars. Any costs incurred above that will have to be paid out by the municipalities.
