The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra’s next stop during its virtual performances is Ireland, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

Night in Dublin will feature singer song writer Eileen Laverty who was born in Belfast Ireland, but her family immigrated to Saskatoon when she was young. She says she’s very proud of her Irish culture but she is also a fiercely proud prairie girl. Laverty is excited to get back to her roots, and each of the songs she will be singing will hold a deep significance to her in terms of her family and growth as a singer.

Laverty will share memories, favorite traditional songs and original tunes.  The performance will also feature Celtic Fiddler Kim deLaforest, who Laverty says will “provide the toe-tapping fiddle tunes, while she sings a few Irish ballads.” The songs will be arranged for the orchestra by guest conductor Paul Suchan, including a song called “Belfast” about Laverty’s hometown.

Laverty says the symphony has done a wonderful job at keeping music going while everyone else isn’t able to play together.

The SSO’s Night in Dublin will stream live Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
