A 23 year old man has been charged with second degree murder in connection to an investigation of the death of 21-month-old Lorenzo Cote from the Cote First Nation in Kamsack.
On November 21st of last year, Canora RCMP received a call about an infant needing urgent medical attention at a home in Canora.
The police took over resuscitation efforts from the family until EMS arrived, but the efforts were unsuccessful and the toddler was pronounced dead.
Based on the nature of the injuries and the initial investigation by police, the RCMP Major Crimes Unit South was called in to take over the investigation.
On February 23rd, police officially declared the death a homicide.
Waylon Severight, who was known to Lorenzo Cote, appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court this morning, and his next appearance is April 8th.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
