Statistics Canada has been tracking police-reported crime and calls-for-service during the COVID-19 pandemic; things like assaults, serious driving offences, and break and enter. In those groups, most of the offences between October 2020 and January 2021 hadn’t changed much from the same period the year before in Saskatoon. Some notable differences included total break and enters at 258 this last January compared to 202 in the same month a year ago.

One of the more significant differences came in the category of, “Calls for service, domestic disturbances/disputes.” Last October, there were 672 calls compared to 557 the same month a year ago; 518 calls in November, which was a drop from 597 the same month a year ago; 566 of the calls in December, up from 538 in 2019; and, 648 calls in January compared to 563 in January 2020.
