The City of Prince Albert would like to advise residents that masks cannot be flushed down toilets. The City’s Water and Sewer Department is reporting masks in the sewer lines which are creating blockages. It can damage sewer lines and result in costly repairs for homeowners.
Flushing anything other than human waste or toilet paper, or draining them through a sink is illegal and goes against a City Bylaw.
Items like diapers, sanitary napkins, kitchen grease, combs, hair, plastic materials, oil, sump pump water, newspaper rags, and cloths can all cause a blocked line. Even wipes, Kleenex and paper towel can clog your sewer lines.
The city says masks should only be disposed of in household garbage bins.
