A public inquest into the death of 31 year old Ryan Donard opens today (mon) at the Joe Cook Memorial Centre in Black Lake. In February of 2017, officers from Stony Rapids RCMP responded to a complaint from a residence there. When they arrived, a man fled the scene and was chased by the officers. It was believed that he went into the Fond du Lac River where he drowned. Four months later, his body was recovered from Fond du Lac Lake. The Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths. The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths. Brent Gough, Q.C. will preside. The inquest is scheduled to continue all this week.
