The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples is calling for charges against Emily Kammermayer to be dropped in the wake of alleged RCMP misconduct. After what CAP calls a racially motivated arrest in December, Kammermayer was charged with assault on three police officers and assault with a weapon. CAP says this occurred after her child was denied medical attention at the La Ronge Health Centre.

The organization says It has come to light that one of the arresting officers had previously neglected Kammermayer on another case, when she brought allegations of sexual assault at her residence during a home invasion while she was attending high school. CAP says the officer failed to pursue the medical results necessary from the rape-kit and left Ms. Kammermayer’s case uninvestigated. Kammermayer filed a complaint at the time and has not had follow-up from the RCMP in regard to the home invasion.

In January, CAP says, the RCMP went to Ms. Kammermayer’s home without a warrant for her arrest, and threatened that there would be a repeat of her previous assault in the hospital if she did not come out of her home to talk. Police then allegedly searched her home without a search warrant.

CAP is calling on Attorney General Gordon Wyant to intervene.
