The Saskatoon Police Service is conducting a sudden death investigation after a 30 year old woman died in the Battlefords Union Hospital after being arrested by the RCMP late Wednesday afternoon.
Battlefords RCMP say the woman was arrested without incident just after 4:30 in the afternoon in connection to an ongoing investigation.
A few hours later at the Detachment, officers determined she needed medical care so she was take to the hospital around 7:15.
At 10 Wednesday night, the officer accompanying the woman noticed she was in medical distress and began lifesaving efforts while calling for help.
She was pronounced dead around 10:30.
As is the RCMP’s independent external investigation policy, the Saskatoon Police Service has been requested to look into the circumstances into the woman’s death.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority is also conducting a review and the Ministry of Justice will appoint an independent observer.
The name of the North Battleford woman is not being released.
