Those who utilize the recycling depot in Meadowgreen on the corner of 22nd Street and Witney Avenue will notice some changes.
The City of Saskatoon has decided to add security surveillance at all times along with reducing the hours of operation from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. That’s due to an increase of illegal dumping at the site over the last few weeks.
Angela Gardiner, General Manager of Utilities and Environment with the City says crews already visit the site three to four times a week to try and clean up and address some of the issues at the depot.

Gardiner adds it’s hard to say if rate increases at the Landfill has added to the number of people dumping illegally. “These issues have been occurring at the site for several years, so even before the increased rates were, in place at the, the Landfill.”

The new measures also include locking a gate at night to keep people out after hours.
Gardiner says more long-term solutions will be presented to City Council at a later date.
The City is encouraging residents to also utilize the other five 24/7 recycling depots throughout the city.
The new measures at the Meadowgreen Recycling Depot went into effect Friday.
