According to Environment Canada a strong low pressure system currently developing over Alberta will track eastwards across the central Prairies early this week giving strong winds, heavy snow, blowing snow and patchy freezing rain beginning overnight today Sunday into Monday morning.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Jason Knight says there won’t be a lot of snowfall in Saskatoon Sunday and Monday but the big concern will be the wind across the province. He states we are looking at gusts to about 100 km/h across southern and central Saskatchewan, combined with some snow that will bring poor visibility to Saskatchewan roads on Monday. The strongest winds are expected to stretch from The Battlefords to Kindersley and then southeastwards to Estevan.
Knight explains the snowfall amount so far is very variable but expects local amounts of five to ten centimeters. Knight says it will be a quick recovery as the severe weather will be gone by Tuesday morning. He predicts it’s clear sailing from there with with plus degree temperatures by Wednesday and double digits likely for Thursday.
