Monday was going to be the first day of a five week first degree murder trial at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench, but Justice Robert Danyliuk stated in a notice to media on Friday that the decision has been made to adjourn until September 7th.
Greg Fertuck was charged in 2019 with first degree murder and indignity to human remains in connection to the disappearance of his wife, Sheree Fertuck, in September of 2015.
Justice Danyliuk says because some of the witnesses are from the Regina area which is experiencing a surge in variants of COVID-19, and because the government is urging no travelling to or from there, the decision was made to postpone the trial.
He says some witnesses could testify by video link, but there are key Crown witnesses who need to attend in person.
Defence counsel has waived the effects of any delay under the Charter.
