It was a tragic chain reaction in bad weather when eight vehicles collided in the westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada highway Monday about four kilometres west of Chaplin.
Morse RCMP say they were called out at 2:15 p.m. and have deduced that a passenger van and one semi collided, followed by a second semi colliding with the first. Three other semis, a cube van and a truck then collided with the first vehicles.
The lone 22 year old man from Calgary who was driving the second semi was pronounced deceased at the scene. An occupant in another semi was treated for minor injuries.
Traffic is expected to be diverted around this area of Highway 1 for sometime Tuesday to aid in clean up of the vehicles as well as the investigation of the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist.
