They’ve accomplished the first half of their “Redemption Weekend” mission…Sunday will be a chance for the Saskatoon Blades to complete the assignment.
The Bridge City Bunch doubled Moose Jaw 4-2 Saturday night in the W-H-L East Division “Dubble” in Regina. That upped the Blue and Gold’s overall record to 11-2-2. The first “2” in that record is regulation-time losses…both of which have occurred in Saskatoon’s last five games. The Warriors handed the Blades their first regulation loss by a 4-0 score on April 2. That was followed two night’s later by a 3-1 triumph for Brandon over the Bridge City Bunch.
After gaining revenge on the Warriors, the Blue and Gold can do the same when they face the Wheat Kings Sunday evening!
Moose Jaw, now 7-8-1 for the season, opened the scoring when Saskatoon product and recently-turned 16-year-old Brayden Yager sniped his fourth goal of the Hub. But, Tristen Robins turned the tide in the Blades’ favour after that. The 19-year-old San Jose Sharks’ signed second round pick in the 2020 N-H-L Draft scored twice, once on the power play, to give the Bridge City Bunch the lead…then set up Wyatt McLeod for the game winner early in the second period. Kyle Crnkovic added a short-handed goal in the third frame while Koen MacInnes (pictured) stopped 28 of 30 shots in goal for the Blue and Gold.
Besides seeking redemption against the Wheaties Sunday, the game will be a showdown for first place in the East Division as the Blades and Brandon both have 11-2-2 records.
