The NDP Education Critic in Saskatchewan says the public should join their push to get more Educational Assistants hired in the province. Carla Beck says the opposition will continue to pressure Premier Scott Moe to live up to a promise during his run for the SaskParty leadership. The MLA for Regina Lakeview claims Moe promised 400 EA’s would be hired but says less than 50 have been added to Saskatchewan classrooms. She stresses the voices of teachers, students and parents are powerful. Beck is also critical of shortages in areas like Occupational Therapy, Counseling and Indigenous Specialists as well as English as Additional Language teachers. She takes the government to task for not having enough EAL teachers to address the rapid growth in foreign students. The Saskatoon Public School Division cut 15 EAL positions last June to help address a $5-million budget shortfall.
