A week long virtual skills competition has begun in Saskatchewan.

The Skills Canada Saskatchewan Virtual Provincial competition will see post secondary students and high school students from across the province showcase their skills for a chance to win medals and earn recognition.

There are more than 35 competition categories covering a wide range of skills sets. Skilled trades like plumbing, cooking, hairstyling and welding. Technology categories include thins like architectural technology and design, coding, graphic design, photography and electronics. Competitions are designed by technical experts from industry and educational institutes and are judge by industry representatives.  While the competition typically takes place in locations open to the public across Saskatchewan, due to the pandemic, competitors will participate in their own locations, virtually. Whether that be at home, a workplace, school or training facility.

The competition wraps up on Friday with a virtual medal ceremony and virtual career expo.  Winners will move on to the Skills Canada Virtual National Competition on June 15th.

Skills Canada Saskatchewan Executive Director Colin Phippard says it is the organization’s largest event and a chance to celebrate the incredible skills the province’s young people possess, and to acknowledge the important work performed by people in these sectors.
