The Saskatchewan NDP criticized the government during Wednesday’s question period for failing to protect people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meara Conway referenced the government’s proposed amendments to The Residential Tenancies Act which she said will allow landlords to evict tenants more easily.

Justice Minister Gord Wyant says what they want to do is try to streamline the legislation as much as possible to give landlords an opportunity when it comes to notifying tenants, and to give tenants an opportunity to make sure they get all of their evidence in front of a hearing officer.

When asked if it’s the right time to accelerate the process, given the pandemic, Wyant said they are giving thought to those similar arguments brought up by stakeholders and members of the NDP.
