Following a federal 27 billion-dollar commitment towards child care over 5 years, NDP economy critic Aleana Young wants the province to step up its support for child care.
She wants the Sask. Party government to create new child care spaces and lower fees to help women and men return to work during the pandemic.
Young says child care is economic infrastructure. She is in favour of investing in child care if it means enabling parents to fully participate in the economy.
Education Minister Dustin Duncan says they are continuing to develop 176 home care spaces and 51 new centre spaces in the province.
He says he will be having discussions with the federal government in the coming days to learn more about how the funding will benefit Saskatchewan moving forward.
