Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan and the RCMP are highlighting a couple of unique traffic stops this month. On April 8th, CTSS detected a vehicle going 160 km/h in a 110 km/h zone west of Colonsay. Police say when the driver was stopped, he said he had no idea why he was being pulled over.
Officers learned the driver had changed the display in his vehicle to miles per hour rather than kilometres. He said he was checking the gas mileage of the vehicle. His fine was $910.

On April 16th near Lloydminster, Maidstone CTSS noticed an unregistered vehicle and pulled it over. The driver had a suspended driver’s licence and there were four children, all under 10 years old, and none of them had booster seats or appropriate restraints. The vehicle was towed and the driver received a number of fines. Officers ensured the children were returned home safely and provided guidance to make sure they weren’t placed in this situation again.

Then April 17th, Maple Creek RCMP officers noticed a trio of supercars on Highway 21. Police say the vehicles were going more than 180 km/h in a 110 km/h zone. A Lamborghini, a Ferrari and an Aston Martin were stopped and a total of $3600 in fines were issued and all three vehicles were impounded.
One of the drivers had just taken his vehicle out of winter storage and had failed to properly register it.

Saskatchewan’s Officer in charge of traffic, Superintendent Grant St. Germaine, says these incidents could have resulted in something much more serious than the fines that were issued. He urges drivers to remain vigilant behind the wheel to keep everyone safe.
