Some Saskatchewan residents will be able to visit their mom on Mother’s Day this year.
On Thursday, the province announced that visitors will be able to return to care homes starting on the 29th under certain circumstances. If at least 90 per cent of all residents have been fully vaccinated and three weeks has passed since their second dose, visitors will be permitted.
During Thursday’s COVID-19 update, Minister for Seniors, Everett Hindley said that residents will be able to welcome two visitors at a time indoors and up to four visitors a time outdoors.
Residents who have received both shots and go out on outing will no longer be required to self-isolate once they return.
Hindley added that the pharmacy vaccine pilot will begin next Thursday and it’s expected that residents will be able to get their shot at 61 pharmacies in 13 communities throughout the province.
The seniors minister added that the pharmacies will begin taking appointments through their online booking system starting on Monday and some may also make it available as soon as tomorrow (friday).
It’s also expected that more pharmacies will join the program in the following days and weeks following its launch. Provincial officials say they’re working as quickly as possible to make the vaccine available as quickly as possible. In the meantime,
Hindley says to keep following public health orders and guidelines as Saskatchewan’s case numbers and hospitalizations have gone down slightly. He credits the health orders and vaccines.
Thursday’s news on care homes came as the province reported another 254 new cases of COVID-19, 299 recoveries and one new death. A person in their 50’s from the South Central Zone is the 470th Saskatchewan resident to die after testing positive for the coronavirus.
