Making its way around Social Media is an invitation to a children’s freedom rally fun day in the park. The invitation indicates that the day is all about celebrating freedom but also children having fun and most people will not be wearing masks. It invites parents, grandparents and all family members. The event is at Vimy Memorial in downtown Saskatoon.
A request for an interview to discuss how Saskatoon Police were going to deal with the rally was declined, with the explanation that the Saskatoon Police Service does not reveal its operational plans. Saskatoon Police do say that along with Saskatchewan Public Health, they are aware of the event and will treat it as they have similar rallies in the past. As well, they have plans in place to ensure a safe environment. The police service encourages anyone attending to adhere to Public Health Orders and they discourage any large public gatherings at this time.
The City of Saskatoon says organizers of the event have not requested a permit for a public gathering. The City also says permits are only being provided for events that adhere to guidelines in the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan and the current public health order.
