A private member’s bill to legalize single-event sports betting in Canada has been passed by parliament. The bill was put forward by Kevin Waugh, Conservative Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Grasswood.
Waugh says the Justice Committee’s study of the bill highlighted the fact that legalizing single-event sports betting will create great economic opportunities for Canadian workers, businesses, and employees. He says It will also ensure that provincial governments have access to the tools necessary to properly regulate sports betting and implement consumer protection and problem gambling programs to protect Canadians.
Waugh says he is hopeful that the Senate will pass the bill quickly given the support it received from all parties in the House.
