The Metis Nation – Saskatchewan election officially begins Saturday with the Declaration of Election issued at 9 in the morning. Chief Electoral Officer, Gwen LaFond says to vote, Metis citizens will need an MN-S card or a letter from the registrar indicating that they are eligible to vote, and also a Saskatchewan Health card and proof of name and address, for instance a utility bill.

Voters need to be at least 16 years old on election day and to have been living in Saskatchewan for at least six months. Nominations close next Thursday afternoon at 2 and then voting begins at the twelve regional returning offices as of May 14th through the 21st. There are also the advance polls in select communities on May 22nd, and on election day on May 29th the polls are open from 9 am to 8 pm.

LaFond adds that the four executive members including President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary will represent the province, not a specific region, so there are separate ballots for these positions. There is also a ballot for the regional director in the area where the voter resides.
