Statistics Canada says, in 2016, total revenue for school boards in Saskatchewan came in at about $2.38 billion dollars. Expenditures totaled about $2.36 billion. Operating expenditures totaled $2.04 billion. Capital expenditures totaled about $320 million. The lion’s share of financing, just over 65 per cent, goes to instruction and education services. Statistics Canada says about 60 per cent of operating expenditures are teachers’ salaries. The agency says nationally, educator salaries and benefits accounted for two-thirds of the total operating expenses. Across Canada, total expenses for the general regulation and control of school boards and districts, as well as the overall supervision and administration of instructional programs decreased by 0.5% in 2016/2017. These expenditures accounted for 5.6% of total operating expenses.
