Students in the Horizon School Division will be getting extra days off in the next school year, but still keeping the same amount of in-class instructional time.
Horizon’s Board of Education has approved the calendar which includes five Personal Professional Days.
Director of Education, Kevin Garinger, says Horizon staff were asked how they could best be supported and the overwhelming answer was more time to prepare for in-class learning.
He notes that every child is different and learns in their own unique way, so it can be a challenge for teachers when they are preparing.
The students don’t lose out on in-class learning though, because ten minutes will be added to each school day.
Garinger adds that two of the assigned operational days have been cut as well.
Operational days are when teachers have duties assigned by the Board.
