The goal of an annual event in downtown Saskatoon Thursday during the lunch hour was to stuff a city bus with necessities including shampoo, socks and diapers.
The annual “Stuff the Bus” event put on by the United Way of Saskatoon and area in front of City Hall collected items for six different organizations in the city including The Friendship Inn and AIDS Saskatoon.
Kayla DeMong with AIDS Saskatoon says their support services program which delivers toiletry supplies to those in need helps around 700 people a year.
DeMong adds with donations and contributions like the ones they received Thursday from the United Way, they’re able to continue to provide those in need with basic everyday items.
“These little items add up to a huge impact in our community. We distribute toiletries to hundreds of people each year who are staying in hospital and treatment centres and that is a program that is completely ran by donation.”
This month marks the 60th anniversary of United Way of Saskatoon and Area. Over the last six decades the organization has raised over $119 million dollars to help change lives in the community.
