The executive director of Prairie Harm Reduction says he has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from businesses and organizations.
Jason Mecredi explains that April was a roller coaster month.
He and the staff were down after learning that the provincial government wouldn’t be funding the safe consumption site, but then the community stepped up with donations, which gave everyone at Prairie Harm Reduction a boost.
As of Friday, about 66 businesses and organizations had donated and spread the message of support to others through social media.
Mecredi says the support is welcomed, but the hope remains to get funding from the province because they need sustainable funding to keep going.
He knows what they do is needed, and points to having just helped reverse an overdose minutes before talking to CJWW News.
The executive director says there is a growing need, with a record number of overdose deaths in Saskatoon.
If you would like to help, you can donate, or you can join the letter writing campaign, with both opportunities on PHR’s website.
