Wicihitowin is a Cree/Saulteau word that means “helping each other” or “working together” and it’s what the Wicihitowin Indigenous Engagement Conference is all about. It’s for community organizations, governments and businesses to learn about inclusive representation of Indigenous people as employees, volunteers and decision-makers. The fifth annual conference is October 15th and 16th in Saskatoon. The theme revolves around the number five because of its significant meaning for thousands of residential school survivors. That was the age many children were removed from their families and sent to live in these institutions. The City of Saskatoon is presenting this conference along with the United Way of Saskatoon, Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatoon, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and the Johnson Shoyama Institute of Public Policy.
