Saskatoon Transit saw a deficit of $2.6 million for fixed bus routes in 2020.

In Transit’s annual report being presented today (Monday) Director James McDonald says Transit was hoping 2020 would have been the best year in its 107 year history. The deficit of $2.6 Million for fixed-route Transit and a surplus of $0.9 Million for Access Transit was primarily due to decreased fare revenue during the suspension of fares for 3 months and lower ridership due to the pandemic, offset by operational savings.

In 202 actual operating expenses came in under budget for fixed-route transit at $41.5 Million and Access Transit at $5.1 Million.

Transit reports there are currently 170 buses operating, 140 buses for fixed-route transit and 30 mid-sized cut away buses used by Access Transit.

Currently fixed route service operates 41 bus routes along approximately 276 kilometers of streets with 1,500 bus stops.

Transit employs 417 people, 33 percent which are female and 12 percent who are a visible minority.
