The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation is calling on the province to increase COVID-19 measures in Saskatoon.

STF President Patrick Maze says two weeks ago they called for Saskatoon and area schools to move online proactively so as to not end up in the same situation as Regina. He adds the situation of rising case numbers for Saskatoon and other areas is precisely what was anticipated and feared. Maze suggests when epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists say we are playing chicken with a deadly virus,that’s needs to be taken seriously, even if it poses challenges in the short term

Maze also express concern that despite being eligible last week, teachers are already having a difficult time securing a vaccine appointment. He says there are worrying signs the system is overloaded and not able to handle the influx.

The STF says it has contacted the Ministries of Health and Education and both have indicated they are working to address the issues experienced.
