The opposition NDP is still working to introduce increased minimum fines for people who organize COVID rallies which defy Saskatchewan’s public health order.
Minister of Justice Gord Wyant says there is no need to put in a mandatory minimum fine with respect to these infractions.
He believes it won’t deter individuals from not following health measures, but that people will face consequences for their actions based on the current penalty system.
The NDP will be presenting a bill Tuesday related to setting increased minimum fines.
