The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a report about a grass fire west of Saskatoon just after 1 Wednesday afternoon. Emergency crews found the fire along the north side of the railway tracks by Highway 7 at Range Road 3065. CN Rail was notified and the Fire Department says a CN representative advised they would shut down the track until the fire was out.
The wind changed direction just before 2 p.m. and the fire began travelling south so more firefighting equipment was brought in. The train track was re-opened around 3:30.
Conditions around much of Saskatchewan are dry with not much precipitation so far this spring. Environment Canada reports the province has received about 20 per cent of its normal precipitation for this time of year.
