Welcome to spring on the Prairies. That from Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang with a forecast this week that includes record high temperatures followed by snow in some areas. Lang says hot weather records could be broken across southern Saskatchewan today (Mon) and tomorrow with temperatures in the low 30s.

That includes Saskatoon with a high forecast at 32 degrees, while the record for May 17th is 30.6 set in 1901. Lang cautions that along with the heat, there is also wind, which means an increased risk of grass fires.

Later in the week, the overnight lows around Thursday dip to the minus side as a weather system moves in from the north. Saskatoon will be on the edge of it, so is not expected to get much precipitation but in the southeast, the forecast is for rain and in the southwest, it’s snow. Looking ahead to the long weekend, Lang expects it will be colder than average.
