On a Facebook post, Saskatoon Police say they responded to a collision between a train and a pick-up truck at the intersection of Highways 11 and 7 just before midnight Sunday night.
When officers were responding to the scene, they were notified that the truck had been travelling north on Highway 7 before it struck the train.
Police say witnesses told them the train dragged the truck across the ditch and almost struck other vehicles waiting at the rail crossing.
Police say in the post, the driver reportedly reversed through the ditch and fled the scene to a near by gas station where he checked for damage.
The man then got back into the truck and started driving again. Officers then found the truck heading west on Highway 7, that’s when they activated their lights and sirens, although the driver sped up.
About a kilometre later, the driver pulled over and was taken into custody without incident. The 43 year-old man had a blood alcohol content of .19.
Police say no one was hurt and remind the public to safely call 9-1-1 if they suspect someone is impaired while behind the wheel.
