The number of pursuits involving Saskatoon Police increased in 2020 from the year before.

In 2020 Police were apart of 96 pursuits, compared to 88 in 2019.  All but one of those pursuits began within the city and in eight instances the pursuit left the city.  A total of 95 arrests were made, 37 vehicles were damaged and only two injuries occurred, both to suspects involved in pursuits.  41 pursuits involved a stolen vehicle, down from 54 in 2019, 24 pursuits required air support assistance and another 27 had the assistance of a canine unit.

Police report 54 of last year’s pursuits were called off, which is done when concerns for safety to the public, police or the offender exceed the need to apprehend the suspect.

While there was a nearly eight percent increase in pursuits in 2020, the 96 pursuits were below the 2016 to 2018 average of 158.

The average time for city pursuits involving officers was two minutes and 59 seconds in 2020.
