There was no decision in Court of Queen’s Bench on Thursday about whether Saskatoon Ward 1 Councillor Darren Hill will have to resign his seat. The decision has been reserved to a later date, but there are no specifics yet on when that will be.

Hill was over two weeks late in filing his election contribution and expense statements, which is a city bylaw violation. The bylaw states that an elected candidate who violates the law is disqualified from Council and must resign immediately, but there is an exception if a Court of Queen’s Bench Judge deems the lateness as a mistake.

Hill has taken full responsibility for his actions, but said during an April council meeting that his COVID-19 diagnosis and other health and personal issues led to brain fog, causing him to miss the deadline.
