There has never been an official Arbor Week in Saskatoon before so this is something new that was supposed to kick off last year but was delayed because of the pandemic.

Linda Moskalyk, President of the S-O-S Trees Coalition says now both the City of Saskatoon and the Government of Saskatchewan have officially proclaimed May 28th to June 6th, also for the first time, as Arbor Week.

A full list of Arbor Week events are available at www.sostrees.ca and some of the highlights include Wanuskewin’s walking tour where they talk about plants native to the prairies and also about trees. Meewasin is having a scavenger hunt where you get a card of things to find and it all has to do with trees. Moskalyk describes it as an eco-scavenger hunt.

As well, she says they developed a QR Code Walk, through a company called Wildernook, which specializes in educational programming. Moskalyk says it takes place in Meewasin Park, you scan the QR codes and can listen to what they say about each tree.
