The president of CUPE Local 8443 says the Saskatoon Public School Division is dealing with years of inadequate provincial funding and the government needs to step up to find the appropriate funding.

Dene Nicholson says staff have been given notice that their hours for the next school year would be reduced by a total of 4.7 full-time equivalent positions.

Chair of the Saskatoon Public School Board, Colleen MacPherson, said recently, they are dealing with an $8-million deficit.  The deadline for the Board to approve a balanced budget is June 30th, so no specifics can be released until it has been passed.
