Skyxe Saskatoon Airport has reached the first of four levels for the industry’s Airport Carbon Accreditation program. The end goal is to be carbon neutral and the Saskatoon Airport has been recognized by Airports Council International for achieving the first accreditation level. The first level is about determining emissions sources at the airport, calculating the annual carbon emissions and compiling a carbon footprint report which is then verified by a third-party and acts as a benchmark for improvement. Vice President of Operational Excellence at the airport, Andrew Leeming, says they have been tracking and documenting energy usage for several years now. The goal is to reduce per passenger carbon emissions by 20 per cent from the 2015 benchmark by 2023. Some of the airports energy management efforts include a solar power installation, moving to high efficiency boilers, and LED light fixtures throughout the facility.
